Mission Statement

The Rainey Center is a public policy research and leadership development community by and for women, minorities, and mavericks, named after Rep. Joseph Rainey, a former slave who was the first African American to serve in the United States House of Representatives.

About This Cause

The Joseph Rainey Center for Public Policy is a post-partisan, 501(c)3 public policy research and leadership development community founded on the values of equality, freedom and a more perfect union. From state capitols to the global stage, the Rainey Center is fostering post-partisan dialogue and building the capacity of the next generation of diverse, inclusive policy leadership to work across political divides towards a responsible and sustainable future. Named for Representative Joseph Rainey, a former slave and the first African-American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Rainey Center was founded in 2018 by Sarah E. Hunt and Bishop Garrison with the goal of empowering the voices of women, minorities and mavericks in public policy.
