PROPOSAL CONTACT INFORMATION Tomorrow’s Leaders, LLC (EIN 82-4937640) Tracy R. Powell, PhD Founder/President 2615 Jeffords Road, North Lamar, SC 29069 BACKGROUND/NEED According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2018), youth violence is a significant public health problem that affects thousands of young people each day, and in turn, their families, schools, and communities. It involves young people hurting other peers who are unrelated to them and who they may or may not know well (CDC, 2018). Youth violence may include but is not limited to: fights, bullying, threats with weapons, and gang-related violence. According to CDC, a snapshot shows that youth violence is on the rise. For example: In a 2015 nationally, representative sample of youth in grades 9-12: 7.8% reported being in a physical fight on school property in the 12 months preceding the survey. 10.3% of male students and 5.0% of female students reported being in a physical fight on school property in the 12 months preceding the survey 5.6% did not go to school on one or more days in the 30 days preceding the survey because they felt unsafe at school or on their way to or from school. 4.1% reported carrying a weapon (gun, knife or club) on school property on one or more days in the 30 days preceding the survey 6.0% reported being threatened or injured with a weapon (gun, knife or club) on school property one or more times in the 12 months preceding the survey (CDC, 2018) ACTIVITIES/PLAN These numbers are a true indication that it is time to strengthen our youth in the South Carolina and Georgia and eventually, throughout the United States.
