Mission Statement
Reborn Bikes/Free Bikes 4 Kidz Portland is dedicated to bringing refurbished bicycles and bike education to underrepresented populations while lowering carbon emissions in our region. We believe bicycles are a vital part of a thriving and sustainable community.
About This Cause
The work we do is two-fold. We create equitable access to bicycles and bike safety, increasing individual community engagement. We also impact the greater community by reducing carbon emissions through landfill recovery and by introducing more people to sustainable transportation. Our used bike collection, refurbishment and distribution process, extends the life of bicycles so they can be reborn for new riders to commute to school and work, exercise, and play in their neighborhood. These bikes would become trash, but instead, they are upcycled and kept from the landfill. This recovery model eliminates approximately 75,000 tons of CO2 from our atmosphere. In addition to providing bicycles, we create safe riders through bike education and skills clinics including: Adult and Youth Learn to Ride, Confidence in Traffic and Safe Routes to School program support. In 2023, we distributed nearly 8,000 bikes and safety packages and taught bike skills and safety to over 3,000 individuals.
