Mission Statement
Educate patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and the public about Sleep Apnea causes, symptoms, therapies, and risks. To provide resources useful to recognize Sleep Apnea signs and symptoms to obtain diagnosis and treatment.
About This Cause
Alliance of Sleep Apnea Partners Connecting the World of Sleep Apnea Patients, Providers, Research, and Industry Alliance of Sleep Apnea Partners (ASAP) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit founded in 2018 by a multi-stakeholder group of patients, researchers, and healthcare providers. We are aware of the multiple knowledge and resource gaps patients with Sleep Apnea face. In response, we have developed www.ApneaPartners.Org. This site is designed to be a patient-friendly, easy to navigate website to provide education, resources, and tools for helping patients understand the risk factors for Sleep Apnea, consequences of untreated Sleep Apnea, and treatment options for Sleep Apnea. Gaps we will fill: • Provider trusted site: Clinicians and therapists need a trustworthy web portal for their patients with Sleep Apnea to access evidence-based information and step-by-step guides beyond that available in a clinic. • Facilitating patient learning: Patients and their caregivers need education and support as they navigate their journey to find and implement Sleep apnea treatment. Imagine one web site where patients can access an understandable glossary of words related to Sleep Apnea, descriptions of the range of treatment options, step-by-step guides of what to expect during a sleep study, expectations of what to expect from treatment, support for living with Sleep Apnea, and much more. • Support patient-centered choice and personalization of treatment: In treating sleep apnea there is literally no “one size fits all” treatment. Our site will help patients identify alternative ways to use PAP and other treatment alternatives, including emerging technologies. • Product and treatment guide and evidence-based data: The site will include a Sleep Apnea specific “Products and Treatment Support” section that will list company, industry, and manufacturer sites for patients to learn more about what products are available to them, with categories such as: Treatment Options, Comfort Products, Breathing Support Products and Programs, Weight Loss Programs, Equipment Cleaning and others. • Community-support: The site is being developed collaboratively by patients and clinicians. It is designed to be a vital resource for individuals, families, caregivers, communities, and schools. Our strategy is a massive outreach effort to raise awareness of our existence to help patients gain more education and resources supporting their Sleep Apnea journey. These efforts will include raising awareness on social media along with a direct outreach to providers introducing www.apneapartners.org. We will offer to provide small ASAP cards for their office to give to each new and existing patient to bridge any gaps in patient education. As you may imagine, the work and costs of direct outreach to providers and furnishing their practice with patient cards will be very costly and an ongoing effort. However, we feel the work to raise awareness and support SA patients will be worth every ounce of effort and every penny spent. We could not be more excited to move the needle toward diagnosis and adherence to treatment.
