Mission Statement
To connect the community through classical music by creating engaging and interesting musical experiences that are relevant to people today, and to create a sustainable environment for music through new audiences, new music, and new connections between music and life.
About This Cause
Donate $50 by January 20 and receive a free ticket to our upcoming concert on February 7 (a $75 value) - including a 5 course dinner of Lebanese food! We appreciate your financial support - it means we can continue to produce music for you and for our community. Why is classical music important? Music connects us. It allows us to connect to ourselves - to let the sounds prompt us to step outside of our everyday life, to process our emotions, to enjoy the moment. It connects us to our community - it helps us realize that music, the universal language, can speak to each of us in a different way, it allows to consider how we relate to the people around us, and encourages us to give back to our community. The SustainMusicProjectis a classical chambermusicgroup founded in 2018 with the specific intention of creating a professional classical performing arts ensemble for the Eastside. As the cities of Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond continue to grow into commercial centers and technological hubs, the artistic and cultural aspects of our eastside cities should be developing right along with them - creating the possibility of experiencing great art and music without having to travel to Seattle. What can you expect when you come to one of our concerts? We play in warm, intimate venues so that every audience member can see what's going on. Our musicians are excellent, passionate, and local - often members of the Seattle Symphony, the Pacific Northwest Ballet, and other regional ensembles. Our programs tell stories throughmusic -we talk about what's going on behind each piece - for instance, why the composer wrote it, what to listen for, and what to think about while listening - and we connect it to what's happening around us in the present. We partner with different artistic mediums (such as visual arts, food, and dance) and withcommunity-serving nonprofits to linkmusicand life.Listeners can come to a deeper understanding and enjoyment of the music by experiencing it through the lenses of art, media, and community. And we believe that people who need music the most often have the least access to it, which is why we also perform our concertsat shelters, hospitals, schools, and other community-minded venues. We use music to make a difference in our world. Check out our upcoming concerts! Thursday, February 7, 7:30 pm - "Music & Mezze" (music for flute and string quartet) Resonance at Soma Towers (288 106th Avenue NE, Suite 203 Bellevue, WA 98004) Indulge your senses as you experience the connection between music and food as each course features music for flute and strings. Andrea Ryan from Damoori Kitchen will present four courses of gourmet Lebanese cuisine inspired by the music being performed. Bright, colorful charcuterie plates mimic the cheerful melodies of Mozart. Enjoy different mezze (appetizers), the “journey of the meal”, as the music of the Roussel wanders through different moods. A modern twist on Fattoush (Lebanese salad) echoes the transformation from longing to peace portrayed in the Foote piece. “A World I Loved,” a Middle Eastern sounding piece written for Western instruments, echoes the traditional Lebanese main dish of chicken, rice, and vegetables – familiar food offered in new flavors. Please join us on this special night as we experience a delightful marriage of sound and taste. Thursday, May 2, 7:30 pm; "Colors in Concert" (music for woodwind quintet) Resonance at Soma Towers (288 106th Avenue NE, Suite 203 Bellevue, WA 98004) The contrasting colors of the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and french horn are brilliantly showcased through the impressionistic Tombeau de Couperin by Ravel, the spirited Bagatelles of Ligeti, and the dazzling Maslanka Quintet. Exploring the relationship between auditory and visual colors, the music will accentuate the Issaquah-based artist Kimberly Adams’s vibrant landscapes.
