Mission Statement

Black Sisters in STEM (Black SiS) is on a mission to build Black Female futures by pioneering a transformative model: integrating financial, academic, and psychosocial support to empower Black women in STEM for academic and career success.

About This Cause

Nearly 50% of Black women drop out of STEM majors by sophomore year. Black women constitute only 2 percent of STEM jobs. A statistic that has been stagnant since 2018. Black women struggle at every stage of the STEM pipeline. It’s not due to lack of desire, or capacity, it’s to lack of support. Our plan is crystal clear: 'The Turning Point Fund' aims to raise $4.2 million to fund 1,000 Black women in STEM over the next 3 years with holistic resourcing that covers academic, skill building, and experiential learning opportunities. From Nairobi, Kenya to Brooklyn, NY we are building a community that the world has never seen. Black SiS is cultivating a pipeline of skilled Black women in STEM who are leading the way in addressing the racial wealth gap and creating multi-generational change. We have the potential to be the largest talent network and skills database of Black women in STEM globally.
