Mission Statement
Endless opportunities for extraordinary adults.
About This Cause
Matthias Academy is a nonprofit adult day program coming to Southeast, Wisconsin. Matthias Academy will serve adults with mild to severe disabilities, specialized medical needs, behaviors and mild to severe autism from Illinois and Wisconsin. Matthias Academy will provide a Community College-like program for adults with profound special needs, medical needs, behavioral needs and intellectual disabilities to learn and work. Classes will be offered in several areas of study, such as Health and Wellness, Systems Engineering, Music, Culinary Arts, Meteorology, Fashion and Design, Marketing, Communication and Digital Media, Horticulture and Environmental Studies, Accounting and Business Management, all tailored to individual learning levels. Adults will have the opportunity to work within the community of Matthias Academy at the Bike Shop, Bakery, Cafe, Gift and Garden Center and throughout the campus. We will highly encourage the involvement of the surrounding community to come onto our campus to shop and visit, we will also encourage the involvement of local schools and local colleges. Times of recreation and leisure will be guided, exercise and mobility will be required multiple times daily to maintain health and wellness. Independence will be strongly encouraged and parent and student guided goals will be carried out throughout daily operations. Students are “students” until they are 30 years old, when they turn 30, they become “graduate students” this means they will take one class at a time, continue to exercise each day, do their jobs, and socialize. When students turn 65 they can choose to semi-retire... meaning they can take one class, work one job per day, exercise still required, and they get to socialize a little more during the day. Think, the retired group of men that meet at Gurnee donuts every morning... they have that option at 65 and each year after, to be semi-retired.
