Mission Statement
Sierra Meadows Foundation is a passion project from the CEO of Sierra Meadows Behavioral Health, Dr. Matthew Tatum. Sierra Meadows Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was created to reach the broader population of the Central Valley, allowing greater access to mental healthcare for uninsured and underinsured individuals. Our belief is that individuals struggling with mental health conditions have enough barriers when they are in crisis - we don’t want finances to be another. We believe that everyone deserves health and wellbeing and our mission is to remove barriers to accessing mental healthcare in Fresno, CA.
About This Cause
OUR SERVICES The first project from Sierra Meadows Foundation is The Birdie Lou Counseling Center. The Birdie Lou Counseling Center provides free therapy services to those in Fresno County experiencing mild to moderate mental health symptoms. We offer individual therapy for adults and children (8 and older), couples therapy, family therapy, and a variety of groups to address a wide range of mental healthcare concerns. we also provide telehealth services both to county residents, as well as residents outside of our county who do not have access to affordable care. We have clients ranging from northern to southern California because of our accessible model of treatment. TRAINING FACILITY The Birdie Lou Counseling Center will also function as a training facility for therapists-in-training with local marriage and family therapy or counseling Master’s programs. All therapists-in-training will be supervised by an experienced, licensed, Marriage & Family Therapist. This model allows for our clientele to receive thorough care at no cost, while also ensuring that we continue to put well-trained therapists into the workforce in our community. The clients we serve are primarily from lower socioeconomic status, many are without insurance or on Medi-cal or Medicaid, and about 40% of our clients speak a language other than English as their first language. In September 2022 we relocated to a larger office space to accommodate the growth we have experienced in less than one year in operation. We have added additional clinical supervisors to our team to accommodate the fourteen service providers we have. We also plan to develop a mobile therapy unit in order to better serve rural communities in our area. Since December 2021, our average monthly number of sessions provided to clients has grown from 44 to 150, and our client totals have grown from 58 to well over 100. Our goal is, with continued community support and funding, to serve as many clients as possible completely free of charge while expanding our services in accordance with the mental health needs in the Central Valley of California and beyond.
