Mission Statement

A world in which families and communities impacted by Huntington’s disease live in dignity, equality and prosperity exercising their basic and fundamental rights, including their right to health and education.

About This Cause

Factor-H was founded by physicians and scientists working to find treatments for rare genetic disorders, including Huntington's disease (HD). HD is a fatal neurodegenerative disease, whose genetic cause is known. The identification of the mutation was possible through the collaboration of families living in small towns in Latin America where the disease has the highest prevalence in the world. Most of these families live in extreme poverty. Factor-H aims to tackle the intersection of genetic disease and poverty, by providing humanitarian assistance in the areas of medicine, youth, advocacy and community development. We believe in a world where people born with a genetic condition have a chance to flourish in life. We focus on providing medical assistance, youth programs including education and sponsorships, and investing in community development programs. In addition, we focus significant efforts in protecting the rights of HD families and in influencing policy decisions. We work with leading HD clinicians & other health professionals, and partner with local non-profits and universities to fulfill our mission. All income goes to finance our programs on the ground. The Board members receive no compensation. Logistics and financial operations are managed in collaborations with leading non profits in each country. We support all HD patient associations in each of the countries we work in.
