Mission Statement
Witness to Mass Incarceration (WITNESS) is dedicated to fostering economic liberation for formerly incarcerated individuals (FIP), system-impacted persons, LGBTQ+ youth, and the migrant community. We achieve this by creating a hub of excellence in entrepreneurship and innovation for these communities, providing comprehensive vocational training, social enterprise solutions, and robust support systems. Our mission is to cultivate economic independence, reduce recidivism, and nurture generational wealth, dismantling systemic barriers and advancing equality for all we serve.
About This Cause
Witness to the perpetuating inequalities and discrimination of our current social and political structures, to the high numbers of POC placed behind bars as a result of these cyclical inequalities, and especially to the struggles they face in regaining agency and claiming opportunities for themselves after prison, Witness to Mass Incarceration devoted its efforts into building The MAP Project, an economic ecosystem to empower formerly incarcerated-led services and businesses. Under the reality of how difficult it is for FIP to find work, we see a community of small businesses and services as having unparalleled potential in allowing the FIP community to self-create a sustainable living space through economic independence and collective empowerment. Through our initiative, we hope to profile every FIP-led service and business across America. We are now also networking the services and businesses with each other and providing them with partnerships which will help them to scale up their business. With the credit union we hope to provide micro-loans to startups. Together we see us coming together as a powerful economic and civic force capable of making transformative changes in social and racial justice.
