Mission Statement
To break the cycle of poverty by changing the first 1,000 days of a child’s life through early, intensive, and community-based interventions. We believe in working with the family as a unit and working deeply within a neighborhood. We witness the enormous power of working alongside a community of women.
About This Cause
Nido de Esperanza utilizes a two-generation (parent + baby) and community-focused approach that is holistic, empowering, supportive, hospitable, culturally-competent, and replicable. Nido de Esperanza’s staff and volunteers aim to create a safe and nurturing place for families to thrive, while at the same time, foster an atmosphere of advocacy, dignity, self-efficacy, and love. Our programming is culturally-competent and immigrant-sensitive. We are in the business of providing hope. We partner with the parent(s) and provide diapers, food, clothes, books, parent education, and most importantly - community! We work to raise aspirations and provide positive role models. Mamas are strong when we work together! We empower the parents to be the best parents they can be. Specifically, our families join us 1x/week for their group sessions (mommy + me), 1x/week for The Reading Corner, 1x/week for English classes with childcare provided and then 1x/month for a 1 on 1 meetings with the social worker. Additionally, they may be stopping by to pick up food, attend trauma-informed yoga classes, get a birthday present for an older sibling, etc. Once a quarter, they “shop” at our Baby Boutique to help provide for the material needs of a baby (e.g., developmental toy, books, pjs, stroller, diapers). We also connect each Mommy & Me Group via Whatsapp. They use this app to stay in touch with us and each other, even when their cellular service is turned off. Community matters- particularly when you are a new immigrant mama. Knowledge matters - particularly when you didn’t have strong role models growing up. Books matter – particularly when you don’t have any in your home. Food matters – it is hard to learn and focus if you are hungry. We get it. We see it every day. We are changing it - day by day, child by child, neighborhood by neighborhood.
