Mission Statement
Kids First Chicago’s mission is to dramatically improve education for Chicago’s children by ensuring high-quality public schools are accessible to all families. We believe that a healthy education environment where kids, schools, and communities thrive is the key to a world-class city. We believe that those closest to our students - families, community members, and educators - are best equipped to design policies and systems that will improve equity and lead to stronger outcomes for our students, our communities, and our city.
About This Cause
Kids First Chicago's core strategies and services include: 1) We support communities and families in understanding education and policy data to identify, navigate to, and advocate for high-quality public schools for their children and communities; 2) Together with families, we partner with city and district leadership to design and implement policies that prioritize community members’ needs; and 3) We provide unbiased data expertise to community and district stakeholders alike. We take a human-centered, design-thinking approach to implementing our core strategies. First, we listen and seek to understand common education challenges by engaging directly with communities and families, conducting focus groups, and gathering polling information. Once we’ve outlined barriers, we bring community leaders, parents, and city and district leaders to the table to design solutions—together. With stakeholder input, we then implement and refine those solutions over time. This approach is powerful in Chicago’s education ecosystem.
