Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide Milwaukee Area Technical College students experiencing economic emergencies with rapid financial support and to promote public and MATC policies on issues impacting MATC students so they remain enrolled and achieve academic success.
About This Cause
The FAST Fund at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) — Faculty and Students Together — is an economic emergency fund designed to provide rapid, student-centered financial support to MATC students experiencing unexpected hardships. Our goal is to ensure students stay enrolled, meet their basic needs, and complete their education. Many MATC students face significant barriers to success, including housing instability, food insecurity, lack of transportation, and limited access to technology. A flat tire, a past-due utility bill, or a broken laptop can be the difference between staying in school or dropping out. The FAST Fund steps in quickly to bridge that gap. Founded by educators and rooted in equity, our fund operates with compassion, urgency, and a deep belief in the potential of our students. We also advocate for institutional and public policies that reduce barriers for low-income, working-class, and historically marginalized students, ensuring long-term systems change. Support from donors helps us provide direct financial assistance, expand technology access (such as laptops), and sustain critical advocacy work — all of which help MATC students thrive. Last year, we provided assistance to 2,451 students — 89% of whom graduated or are continuing their education. Investing in the FAST Fund is an investment in Milwaukee’s future workforce and economic ecosystem. Our students go on to become skilled workers, business owners, homeowners, and leaders who strengthen their families and communities. By supporting students today, we’re building a more stable, equitable, and prosperous tomorrow. Together, we keep students enrolled, housed, fed, connected, and on the path to graduation — and we build a stronger Milwaukee in the process.
