Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Wisconsin Foster Closet to aid families in meeting the needs of children and young adults associated with the foster care system by providing stability, assistance and compassion throughout their stay. We will achieve this by providing clothing, personal care items, and support to these children, young adults and families in Wisconsin through individual and community partnerships.
About This Cause
We have four primary missions: Welcome Bags, Gently used clothes and necessities, School Supply Give Away and Christmas for Kids. With the help of donations we have been able to help over 250 kids and young adults in the last year. We are a 100% donation run organization. Welcome bags are backpacks given to children and young adults entering foster and kinship care in Dunn County and surrounding counties. The backpack includes basic hygiene items (shampoo, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, diaper rash cream, bottles, diapers,mbrush/comb), stuffed animal/toy, blanket, sweatshirt, coloring book/crayons, new underwear, and socks. The reason behind the sweatshirt and blankets is most children entering foster care come to foster families with nothing but the clothes on their back and sometimes not even that if they are taken out of a drug home. Therefore we thought the blanket for younger children and sweatshirt for older kids is something they are given that is their property and security when entering these tough situations the children are often put in. We offer gently used clothing to children as well that is all donated by members of our community. Foster parents are able to call our organization 24/7 and we will get them 4-6 outfits and shoes to help them through the first few days. Parents can also return as the child grows during their stay in foster care. We recently began doing a school supply give away for these children ang young adults as well. In the first year of the program we helped over 125 kids get the supplies they needed to have a successful school year. Christmas for the kids is a program where foster parents sign their foster and kinship children up and sponsors within our community will sponsor the children so they have presents for Christmas. This is just another way to let the foster and kinship children and young adults know they aren't alone and people do care about them.
