Mission Statement
CLC is a 501(c)(3) that plants trees on contour, to restore ecosystem health and generate economic wealth.
About This Cause
We plant trees with local campesinos in Guatemala, on their own land, within their own communities. Through directly organizing, training and fundraising these projects, we empower these communities to regenerate their land, away from low-income, high-erosion cornfields, towards organic agroforestry systems on contour. On our second year working in the rural tropics of Livingston, Izabal, we have to date: - funded 70 project sites - transitioned over 80 acres - planted over 36,000 trees - on 110,000 feet of contour lines - with only $26k USD in funds We work with diverse benefactors, including 11 Q'echi (mayan) villages, 2 ladino farms, 4 Garifuna (afro-Caribbean) communities, as well as women's projects, sustainable construction (bamboo) sites, an urban garden and school garden within Livingston proper, where we have our headquarters, education center and tree nursery. OUR GOAL Throughout Greater Livingston's 1,000 sq km of tropical rainforest, our goal is to transition 50% from corn or pasture into reforestation and/or regenerative agriculture, while transitioning 1/3 of the Municipality of Livingston's GPD to resulting regenerative industries (agroforestry products, eco-tourism, tree-planting incentives). In this endeavor we collaborate with non-profits, local government, community councils and private landowners to transition their lands, to plant trees, to both restore rainforest and to farm regeneratively, to transition human culture to exist symbiotically with nature. Contour Lines Corp extends this transition...one foot at a time.
