Mission Statement
Using fresh foods as a tool to educate, empower and cultivate health throughout Northeast Ohio.
About This Cause
Food Strong’s mission is to utilize fresh local food as a tool to empower, educate, and cultivate health in communities across Northeast Ohio and the Greater Cleveland areas. We promote the cultivation, purchase, and consumption of fresh, local foods while simultaneously providing linkage to vital services and resources. We use food to convene community members, bring in vital resources, and foster overall community wellness. Food Strong emphasizes youth development in all of our work. We offer School Garden, Culinary, and Youth Entrepreneurship programming. We guide young learners through the garden-to-table process by showing them how to cook, start food-based businesses, and design, plant, maintain, and harvest fresh food and perennial gardens! We also host wellness events, cooking demonstrations, and field trips, as well as educational workshops at our Learning Garden located at the Coit Road Farmers' Market. In addition, we bring a variety of visual arts and mural projects to life. Food Strong has also launched our collaborative project we are calling the Vacant Lot Restoration Initiative (VLRI), which aims to assist community groups by acquiring and restoring vacant lots using sustainable agricultural practices. Our newest project launched this summer with the conversion of a pop-up camper to a mobile farm stand. This will give us the ability to enhance access to fresh foods and products in some of Cleveland's most under-resourced communities.
