Mission Statement
Our mission is the liberation of BIPOC youth through technology and mentorship, by developing decolonized tech education programs to nurture community leaders of change.
About This Cause
Geeking Out Kids of Color teaches computer science to kids through a cultural, gender, and racial justice lens. We engage BIPOC youth and allies with free and fun STEM enrichment, led by BIPOC educators. Your support allows young people to develop a positive attitude and see themselves as successful in STEAM by learning how to code, build robots, create AI models, and build new technology in GOKiC’s critical race, social-emotional learning decolonized curriculum approach. We believe that by empowering kids of color with an education in computer science, they will be able to use technology to impact their communities positively. Our programs are free for our youth, and your support will help retain this fee model. ALLY UP (Official launch coming Summer 2021) AllyUp is an Allyship app that provides ongoing education and allows you to evaluate and implement your learnings to support BIPOC communities better. Ask us about pricing rates for groups and individuals. -Daily reflections to spark critical thinking -Weekly readings to deconstruct racism and systemic inequities -Weekly suggestions to take action and to reflect on your learning -Deep dive into weekly readings with resources for in-depth understanding -Long-term guided learning to effectively support our BIPOC communities AllyUp began due to demand during the tragic events of 2020 surrounding the death of George Floyd. We saw an enormous outpouring of support for Black Lives Matter and overwhelming questions around effective allyship. People wanted things to change, but many felt they didn't know enough about the topic. While it is vital to educate allies on the issues, the burden should not be on People of Color. So the founders and supporters of GOKiC began brainstorming how technology can help with continuous, actionable, accessible learning and partnered with volunteers during a three-day hackathon event.
