About This Cause

Fulfilling Our Commitment to Dementia Care Communities The James M. Dixon Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 charitable organization established to provide assistance to persons living with Alzheimer’s disease, related dementias and their caregivers/partners Vision Statement The James M. Dixon Foundation visions a world free from Alzheimer’s disease. To that end, The Foundation works locally and nationally to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and the effects it has on persons suffering from the disease and those who care for them, especially those in underserved areas, through service, strategic giving, community engagement, mindful training, and policy development and support. This vision will be realized through The Foundation’s Mindful Caring initiative, partnerships with senior living facilities, Beauty Water USA, ALTER, and the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as through commitments to The Emory University Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Morehouse School of Medicine, and local and national churches and other organizations. Dementia Care Training and Support The James M. Dixon Foundation seeks to support caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer’s disease through its Dementia Care Training and Support program. The Dementia Care Training and Support program will assist and equip caregivers with tools and knowledge needed to help with caring for persons living with Alzheimer’s disease through resource attainment; awareness training webinars and instructional courses; programming; and access to opportunities that otherwise have not been available to these underserved communities. We will also obtain information in order to increase and enhance the services The Foundation is able to provide. Alzheimer’s disease disproportionately affects persons of color twice as much as other communities, as resources, information, awareness programs and research opportunities are not readily available or easily accessible. The work that The James M. Dixon Foundation provides will directly impact this inequality. Laptops are required for this initiative. Other Activities of The Foundation The James M. Dixon Foundation currently participates in the following activities: • The Purple Affair is The Foundation’s signature annual fundraising event where a specific organization is selected as benefactor (2019 – Emory University Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center) and (2021 – Morehouse School of Medicine), advocates, caregivers/partners, leaders and others are honored, and support is obtained for continued work in Alzheimer’s support. • Brain Health and Care Symposiums are held annually to provide participants with current information on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, nutrition, hydration, brain health, mindfulness and other areas of selfcare and care for persons living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
