Mission Statement

HOPE Murals’ arts-based character development model, in partnership with the Miami Dade County Juvenile Services Department, serves to support the well-being and mental health of our incarcerated youth. The HOPE Murals approach synthesizes art into a trauma-informed model that recognizes and leverages students’ strengths and contributions regardless of the adversity they have faced. Our focus is to support their growth, through personal reflections and challenging dialogue intended to establish an applicable understanding of what 'HOPE' means to them.

About This Cause

WHO WE ARE HOPE Murals provides participants with an interactive experience of self-reflection and artistic expression of HOPE, via an urban arts platform. HOPE Murals facilitates programming intended to engage individuals, including youth, veterans and community residents, in group activities, challenging them to think critically and creatively about the concept of HOPE, as it applies to their personal journey as well as a range of topics from public events in the media, to issues in our community from both a historical, as well as contemporary context. The goal(s) of the mural project model are to accomplish the following objectives: • Explore creative ideas that stimulate Self-Reflection • Execute Art-based activities that promote Self-Awareness • Experience the transformative power of Self-Efficacy This 'Experiential' methodology, serves as the foundation to experience the natural process of “Self-Efficacy”, (...an individual's belief in his or her own innate ability to achieve goals", and/or "how well one can execute courses of action required to deal with prospective situations."), which is a critical characteristic of human development, often lacking in the those we serve! WHAT WE DELIVER • HOPE Murals delivers a weekly program model that introduces the participants to contemporary street art, ranging from images found in local communities to cities/towns abroad, exposing participants to the vast culture of murals and graffiti art, which exist on walls far beyond familiar zip codes. • HOPE Murals highlights artwork from both renowned artists, as well as aspiring artists, in an effort to demonstrate the Power of Art to not only connect communities and generations across class and culture, but to support those in their individual journey of 'Self-Discovery', both creatively and intellectually. • HOPE Murals intentionally recruits local, national and international Artists who specialize in various artistic styles, to serve as the Featured Artist for the month and co-lead the artistic cultivation process of bringing the conceptual image developed by the participants to life. • Our vision is to transform the dull, meek, intimidating, weather battered walls, to a gallery of beautiful, artistic, motivational canvases. These transformed walls, filled with inspirational images, symbols and words intended to serve as catalyst for ALL to 'self-reflect', and provoke the critical thought process that lies within, to challenge oneself to examine 'Where am I', 'Where have I come from' and 'Where do I want to go', in my future.
