Mission Statement
Indexical is dedicated to experimentation in music. Indexical engages the public in radical and unfamiliar work through performance, publication, documentation, educational initiatives, and discussion. We work with historically, culturally, and institutionally underrepresented artists and build community through long-term collaborative projects.
About This Cause
Indexical is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, arts organization and multidisciplinary presenter operating an exhibition and performance space in Santa Cruz, CA. Indexical engages the public in radical and unfamiliar artistic work through performance, publication, documentation, educational initiatives, and discussion. We work with historically, culturally, and institutionally underrepresented artists and build community through long-term collaborative projects. Indexical serves over 100 local and touring artists/artist groups and hosts over 50 events annually, with an estimated total attendance of approximately 3,000 people per year. Indexical’s programming is supported in part by the Vincent J. Coates Foundation, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, California Arts Council, Arts Council of Santa Cruz County, California Humanities, WHH Foundation, Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Amphion Foundation, The Alice M. Ditson Fund of Columbia University, Santa Cruz County Bank, Zicarelli Foundation, Western States Arts Federation, as well as over 100 individual donors. Indexical is W.A.G.E.
