Mission Statement
Our mission is to sustainably grow nutritious vegetables, and to produce pasture-raised eggs, all for donation to those locally in need of healthy food. We aim to make healthy food more accessible and therefore reduce food insecurity and hunger.
About This Cause
Farm to Fight Hunger is a 501c3 public non-profit that grows healthy produce and raises pastured hens for egg production, all to reduce hunger in our local area. Since our founding in 2018 we have harvested and donated over 32,000 pounds of vegetables (128,000 servings) to the local food banks, low income apartments, local medical centers and other locations. We expect to donate over 15,000 eggs this year alone. We operate on a two acre farm that is split between vegetable production and egg production. We utilize sustainable practices in our farming such as no-till beds, crop rotation, addition of compost and cover crops to build soil health and trap carbon to reduce greenhouse gases, and practice a rotational pasture system for the hens. The farm is also surrounded by bio-swales, and has rain gardens to capture, slow, spread and sink the precious rain water, rather than have it run-off. The property is bordered by drought tolerant native plant hedgerows with fruit and nut trees incorporated for variety and to increase our food for donation. The list of plants was selected to provide food and habitat for beneficial insects, butterflies and bees, allowing us to not use pesticides for our integrated pest management system. We are putting up owl boxes, bluebird boxes and bat boxes to help these populations thrive. We want to be a small example of a sustainable eco-farm, while providing a valuable service to the community.
