Mission Statement
At RE:Frame we amplify the power of youth voices to drive change for climate justice, human rights, public health, and education. We cultivate a creative environment to promote leadership, shift narratives, and build healthy relationships between youth and adults.
About This Cause
Our home, South Phoenix, has faced historical challenges deeply influenced by segregation and redlining, leaving lasting impacts on the infrastructure and access to essential resources. The presence of numerous landfills and industrial sites has further compromised the health and wellbeing of predominantly Black and Brown residents. In 2018, a group of teens and selected adult accomplices saw the need for a safe space where youth could express themselves freely while gaining knowledge of their power, history, and joy. Our efforts began with renovating an old adobe home into an arts, wellness, and liberation center. This center not only nurtures creativity and wellness, but also provides paid educational opportunities for young people to engage in policy and programming decisions that shape their lives, challenging the traditional narratives that have historically excluded them. The youth of Phoenix are actively RE:Framing their community's future, growing their sense of self and agency, and driving positive change. By prioritizing the voices of black, brown, and queer youth, Re:Frame ensures that these young leaders are not only participants but key decision-makers, holding a minimum 50% of the organizational power on staff and board. We are committed to compensating young people fairly, valuing their unique skills over traditional experience. Through workshops and activities, Re:Frame's goal is to enable young people to uplift themselves and their community.
