Mission Statement
The Mission of Team 159 is to support the engagement of students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education by participating in FIRST® FRC level competition or other similar or related activity.
About This Cause
Poudre High School’s Alpine Robotics Team 159 is the oldest FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics team in Colorado. Since 1998 we’ve been designing and building robots that compete in regional and national competitions. Our bots have raced, played soccer, lifted boxes and done chin-ups ten feet above the floor. FIRST is an international non-profit organization that aspires to transform culture and promote science, technology, engineering, and math as an integral part of today's education. FIRST accomplishes this through robotics competitions, which inspire the students to dream and turns their interests into solid aspirations for careers in STEM fields. FIRST also provides a chance for students to meet one-on-one with business leaders, engineers, and other robot fanatics! Our team teaches students teamwork, leadership, and project management, as well as hands on experience with programming, mechanical and electrical design, and fabrication. The team is student-run, meaning that although we have mentors to guide us, all design decisions are ultimately made by the students. The technical skills that students learn here are directly applicable to careers in STEM, and the life skills we develop are invaluable. Additionally, we organize community outreach to promote STEM and the values of FIRST - gracious professionalism and ”coopertition,” which means cooperative competition. We assist newer teams, mentor FIRST Lego robotics teams, and demonstrate our robots at local schools and businesses. If you are passionate about robots like we are, or would just like to help promote STEM in schools, then please consider supporting us. These students become our engineers, software developers, scientists, and mathematicians. It’s not just our future. It’s yours too.
