Mission Statement
The Brooklyn Green School is a learning community, committed to cultivating joy in every classroom. Brooklyn Green School Scholars engage in culturally relevant, rigorous coursework, the arts, research and project based learning focused on critical thinking and problem solving. Brooklyn Green School Scholars engage in the Engineering Design Process to address environmental and social issues, develop solutions and advocate for change.
About This Cause
We are a part of the Brooklyn Green School, MS 898, is a Title I, public, environmentally-focused magnet middle school in Bed-Stuy. Founded in 2018, the Brooklyn Green School fosters an inclusive, experiential learning environment where students engage in environmental science, the arts, social-emotional learning, sustainability, and activism. We aim to cultivate a generation of leaders who are passionate about social justice and environmental stewardship. Our school is dedicated to promoting academic excellence, health and wellness, and community involvement, with a particular focus on educating and supporting students from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The DOE budget does not cover all of the programming and opportunities we want to offer our scholars, so the PTA steps in to fill that gap. Our PTA is a 501c3 non-profit organization. With past donations and partnerships (BJs, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Trailblazers, Common Threads and more!), we have been able to distribute food, clothing and offer the community tips on saving energy and money at our annual community-wide Go Green event and Health and Wellness fairs. We are always looking for ways to increase cultural intelligence, provide unique experiences and support our scholars so they can be as successful as possible.
