About This Cause
A non-profit 501(c)3 whose mission is to utilize the traits and benefits of traditional kung fu for helping others; * Confidence * Discipline * Respect * Patience * Strength * Perseverance The Kung Fu Spirit Foundation offers programs such as: o Start Strong – a 4 week course (8 hours total) to help guide middle school age kids (11 - 14) on things they may/will encounter and how to deal with them. This is a non-judgmental class. Topics include: alcohol/drugs/tobacco, cyber safety, decision making skills, dealing with pressure and self defense o Bullying Prevention Workshops - part of The Bully Project. Showing the documentary Bully and leading discussions before and after. Teaching the difference between being a bystander and an up-stander. Strategies on dealing with bullies. Self refection on bullying behavior. Special needs kids. o Self Defense classes - a 3 hour course or on-site lecture. The 3 hour course includes lecture on how to think smart, decision making skills, and awareness with self-defense and empowerment in mind. We typically have a police officer come in to talk about survivor stories and some of the things to do to prevent being a victim. Then we work on practical applications and practice how to use them. To be prepared in case of attack, you need practice, practice, practice. We will work on releases, how to get away from a grab, a choke, if pushed to the ground.... etc. We will work on strikes – how and where. Practice will make the techniques you learn second nature and the reaction to an attack quicker. You will end the class with a mock attack by an instructor in a body suit. (all in a safe environment). On site lecture (60 - 90 minutes) includes how not to be victim, awareness, basic release techniques. o Scholarship Program
