About This Cause
Agastya USA is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization that raises awareness and mobilizes financial resources to support the work of Agastya International Foundation in India. Agastya is a cause - not just an organization. Its vision is of a creative India. Its mission is "to spark curiosity, nurture creativity, and instill confidence" in economically disadvantaged children and government school teachers by bringing imaginative and innovative hands-on science education, project-based and peer-to-peer learning to schools across India. Agastya International Foundation (www.agastya.org) is a charitable education trust that runs the world's largest mobile hands-on science education program for economically disadvantaged children and teachers since 1999. By making practical, hands-on science education accessible to rural government schools, Agastya aims to transform and stimulate the thinking of underprivileged children and teachers. Agastya's Vision is Creatively skilled rural India, which is Entrepreneurially-enabled and Improving the environment to sustain it for future Generations Agastya's Mission is to Infuse and propagate a creative tempter in disadvantaged rural children and teachers through: -Experiential, hands-on science education - Teacher training and education - Scalable, sustainable and environment-friendly methods - Art and Ecology. Agastya's mission to unlock the creative potential of poor children and teachers across India is being achieved through: (1) 100+ Science Centers catering as science resource hubs for surrounding schools and communities. (2) 210+ Mobile Science Labs which take hand-on science education and digital literacy to the village doorstep. (3) 77+ Lab-on-a-Bike, an innovative initiative that extends Agastya’s reach into areas where the mobile labs cannot go. (4) 10000+ Teachers Trained to enable them to teach children to solve problems, think for themselves and tap their innate creativity (5) 30000+ Young Instructor Leads (YIL), this program harnesses the energy and enthusiasm of children who show special interest in – and aptitude for – science, math, and other key areas of study. (6) 600+ Operation Vasantha Centers, community run program to provide remedial classes for students and drop-outs. (7)160 Lab in a Box sets which nurtures a high impact and participatory learning experience for students and teachers. (8) 172 acre Creativity Lab campus in Andhra Pradesh (2 hours from Bangalore) which houses science, art, astronomy. Agastya has reached over 12 million children and 250,000 teachers across 21 states in India, and is supported by scientists and educators in the country. Achievements and Recognitions :: (1) Received humanitarian prize money from former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. (2) Agastya partners with Dr. Kalam in Darbhanga, Bihar through the Mobile Lab program (3) Featured on “Amazing Indians”, Times Now News Channel (4) Agastya wins Google Impact Awards in India for the revolutionary TechLaBike project. (5) Agastya’s ‘commitment to action’ was recognized by the Clinton Global Initiative in 2008 (6) The Prime Minister’s National Knowledge Commission recommended the Agastya model for India-wide scale-up.
