Mission Statement

WDA (Woodlawn Diversity In Action) is a charitable, educational, athletic, and social organization committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment. Through a range of activities and events, particularly the Black Wall Street Chicago Festival, and support for local businesses, we strive to cultivate a resilient and thriving community where individuals and families can flourish. Our mission is to build connections, inspire collaboration, and enact positive change, enhancing the quality of life for all residents. Together, we aim to shape a brighter future rooted in unity, opportunity, and shared prosperity.

About This Cause

Woodlawn Diversity In Action (WDA) is dedicated to celebrating and honoring the rich heritage of black-owned businesses and community pride. We showcase the resilience and ingenuity of black entrepreneurship, recognizing its pivotal role in creating generational wealth and fostering a sense of identity and belonging. As we pay homage to the legacy of the original Black Wall Streets, we strive to ignite a spirit of empowerment and celebration within the Chicago Woodlawn Community and its neighboring areas. At the heart of our efforts lies the Black Wall Street Festival, an annual event that serves as a vibrant forum for families, individuals, and entrepreneurs alike. Through a dynamic blend of entertainment, education, and culinary delights from some of Chicago's most esteemed black-owned food businesses, we aim to cultivate an atmosphere of joy, learning, and community connection. By spotlighting the achievements and contributions of black entrepreneurs, we honor the resilience and creativity that have shaped our communities throughout history. The festival features an array of activities and attractions, including inspiring musical performances, captivating fashion showcases, curated exhibits of black street art and educational installations (financial literacy workshops), and a tantalizing showcase of savory cuisines from across the city. Additionally, attendees explore a diverse range of street vendors offering unique products and services, creating an immersive experience that celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of our community. Through the Black Wall Street Festival and our ongoing initiatives, Woodlawn Diversity In Action seeks to amplify the message of black freedom and culture while promoting unity, collaboration, and economic empowerment within our community. Our efforts have not gone unnoticed, as we've been featured on numerous media outlets, including ABC, CBS, WGN News, the Hyde Park Herald, Mo-gal Magazine, and many more. This exposure has opened doors for business owners, providing them with invaluable opportunities to expand their reach and increase their net worth. We've even assisted owners in securing leased storefront spaces, while guiding others on a path to doubling and, in some cases, tripling their income. By fostering a network of businesses that support and uplift one another, we aim to build upon Woodlawn's legacy and surrounding communities, as a flourishing and thriving hub of innovation and opportunity. Join us as we come together to celebrate the achievements of our entrepreneurs and showcase the beauty and resilience of our community.
