Mission Statement
A national professional development organization committed to ensuring that each child recognize the humanity in one another. Roots ConnectED is the only training for educators that teaches the practical skills of community building and critical thinking needed for creating intentionally integrated and inclusive school communities. It is for anyone who seeks ways to build community and connection across lines of differences in an era of racial and economic divisiveness.
About This Cause
Roots ConnectED believes: asking questions and seeking truth are part of the path towards justice mindsets should be shifted towards learner variability and centering the idea of interconnectedness families are a deep and important part of the children that come into a school friendships can be fostered across lines of difference through authentic community building in raising children to see that social action is the vital responsibility of every human being and that action can look many different ways Today more than ever, educators need to be empowered to create a world we all aspire to live in, one that builds connections across lives of difference, one that recognizes the humanity in each individual, one that values justice as a precursor to unity. A Roots ConnectED community is grounded in anti-bias education. Our approach is centered in notions of identity and inclusion, and uses community building, critical literacy, Universal Design for Learning, representation, and social action to create growth and change in a school community as evidenced by a shift in culture and attitudes and deepened work through curriculum, instruction and professional development. As our nation becomes ever more divided, Roots ConnectED envisions a unified world built upon a foundation of justice. We believe in the power of teaching children to see the humanity in one another with schools at the forefront of this work. Roots ConnectED gives educators the tools to encourage deep connection among children not despite of their differences, but through honoring them. We know this work is hard and on-going and we value the process. We also believe that, to do this work well, we must approach it with love, patience, and a commitment to ongoing work.
