Mission Statement
Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud seeks to nourish and enrich the lives of homebound individuals by providing nutritious meals and daily contact by a caring volunteer.
About This Cause
Since 1968, MOW-LB has offered warm, nutritious meals and vital social contact to isolated, low income, frail individuals with limited abilities to leave home, shop for food, or prepare well-balanced meals. With the aid of our caring volunteers, we strive to improve both the physical and mental health of the homebound through better nutrition, increased social contact, and continued independent living with the support of our program. MOW-LB provides a basic need, meals delivered to isolated, homebound seniors and people with disabilities, at noon-time, Monday through Friday in Loveland, Berthoud and outlying rural areas around the communities. Supplementary frozen meals and non-perishable shelf stable foods are offered for evenings and weekends to frail individuals with poor nutritional status, decreased ability to stand and prepare meals and/or for those who do not have enough money to buy sufficient food. All of our clients receive a volunteer visit with their meal deliveries. During these visits, MOW-LB volunteer drivers provide a client well-being check to ensure clients safety. MOW-LB has a part-time social worker that assists with providing outreach weekly. She schedules home visit appointments with our at-risk seniors to help them with needs they may have beyond home delivered meals. She provides in-home and phone assessments, follow-up information, and referral to assist them with living independently in their own homes.
