Mission Statement

Economic Literacy Colorado prepares students with economics and personal finance skills to participate effectively as responsible and productive members of our free enterprise system. EconlitCo accomplishes this mission by providing high-quality and low to no cost professional development classes and district-wide trainings to teachers and educators throughout the state of Colorado.

About This Cause

Every year students matriculate from our schools into the real world. Economics and personal financial literacy (PFL) content that better prepares students for their transition into adulthood is often sidelined in the educational system. Economic Literacy Colorado is an ardent advocate for and promoter of these essential academic disciplines, often functioning as the economics department that does not exist at colleges of education, filling a critical gap for teachers and students in Colorado. EconLitCo has educated K-12 teachers and students in economics and personal finance for more than 45 years through teacher training courses and our student program, the Stock Market Experience™. More than 1,100 teachers and 112,000 students benefit annually. Our teacher programs are accredited through UCCS and are delivered by highly-regarded PhD professors. Economic education equips students with the life skills necessary to be informed voters, great decision-makers, prepared consumers and responsible members of our free-enterprise system. We are proud to promote a future of financial freedom for our youth and for the betterment of our community as a whole. Because of our work, teachers are better prepared to teach economics and students have access to more relevant and appropriate programs to bolster their understanding of how the economy works, with tangible application to their lives. EconLitCo addresses several inherent issues and fills a void in available resources. The vast majority of teachers responsible for teaching economics have had little or no college course work or teacher training. EconLitCo provides innovative, hands-on training that helps educators utilize a more comprehensive approach to teaching economics.
