Mission Statement
RMHC-Denver provides temporary housing for families whose children are receiving medical treatment at a Denver area healthcare facility. Families stay with us at no charge for as long as treatment takes. In addition to a place to sleep, we provide at least 6 hot meals a week, family activities and a sense of community.
About This Cause
WHAT IS RMHC? • Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 not- for-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. • Ronald McDonald House Charities operates two core programs: two Ronald McDonald Houses and one Ronald McDonald Family Room located inside Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL. WHAT ARE THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSES? • The Ronald McDonald Houses are a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill or injured children who are undergoing inpatient and outpatient treatment at an area hospital. • The Denver Ronald McDonald House can accommodate 73 families nightly and the Aurora Ronald McDonald House can accommodate 45 families nightly. Through both Houses, we provide more than 35,000 nights of care for families in need. • Both Houses offer families their own individual room and bathroom and shared spaces including fully equipped kitchens and dining areas, a stocked pantry, computer labs, laundry facilities and play areas. WHO STAYS AT THE HOUSE? • Families whose children are being treated at area hospitals and live at least 50 miles away are eligible to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. The patient must be 21 years old or younger. • Most families come from Wyoming, Nebraska and outlying areas of Colorado. • Children whose families stay at the House all have serious illnesses, injuries or medical conditions. Some examples include: leukemia and other cancers, heart conditions, and premature conditions. FUNDING • Funding primarily comes from individuals, corporations and foundations with between 15 percent and 20 percent contributed by local McDonald’s owners/operators through in-store canister donations, round-up and other promotions. Individual Volunteers serve in a number of ways. Family Ambassadors are located at our front desk and are an integral part of keeping our Houses running on a daily basis. They are the first people our families, visitors and staff see when they enter our Houses. Pet and Massage Therapists help make the stay just a little bit easier. Family Room Volunteers assist in the smooth operation of the RMHC Family Room ensuring it is a comfortable sanctuary for families of hospitalized children. Group Volunteers prepare and serve meals to the families staying with us. A hot meal can do wonders for families who spend long days caring for their seriously ill children. Whether you’re looking for a team-building activity for colleagues or a fun way to give back with friends and family, volunteering to serve our families is a great way to help nourish our families — both body and soul.
