Mission Statement
Strings Music Festival presents innovative programs of classical and popular contemporary music in an intimate setting, enhancing the cultural, educational, and entertainment experiences of the Yampa Valley community and its visitors.
About This Cause
Strings Music Festival was founded 36 years ago and offers the highest quality music and performing arts in a three county rural area of northwestern Colorado. Strings features top musicians with the country’s leading 25 orchestras, more than 100 Grammy and other major award winning artists in the past 7 years, renowned local and regional musicians, and acclaimed arts educators from across the U.S. Over 60% of the programs we offer are free. Strings Music Festival seeks to provide opportunities for everyone in the Yampa Valley to attend performances and participate in the performing arts regardless of age, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, abilities, or home communities. Strings is committed to presenting diverse artists and composers - both race and gender - as well as genres of music in our free and ticketed performances and events. Our free programs include our nationally acclaimed Strings School Days program for more than 3,000 kindergarten through 12th grade youth in three counties, and community outreach programs. Our community outreach programs engage seniors, families, young children, people with disabilities, and others who may not otherwise be able to participate in the arts due to age, access to venues, disabilities, and/or economic or other circumstances. Strings partners with more than 30 nonprofits, businesses, schools, health care centers, libraries, Boys and Girls Club, senior living, and community centers to deliver these performances. Key milestones in Strings Music Festival's history include: the first chamber music concert (under a tent in 1988); addition of youth and family concerts (1997); Strings School Days free arts education program (2008); completion of our award-winning 569-seat year-round performance hall in Steamboat Springs (2008). Strings is a leader in the performing arts, and has pioneered programs during the pandemic and in the past 36 years that have become a template for other area arts organizations, nonprofits, and businesses. More than 130 events comprise our programming in a typical year, reaching an audience of over 29,000.
