Mission Statement
CSRC provides free screening of all children for speech-language and reading delays, and provides therapy on a sliding scale fee basis so no child is turned away.
About This Cause
CSRC is Northern Colorado's only 501(c)(3) speech-language therapy provider. CSRC provides free screenings of all children for speech and language delay pathologies as well as reading disorders. CSRC offers speech, language and reading therapy programs to children, ages birth - 18 years, with expressive and receptive language disorders including (but not limited to) autism, down syndrome, learning disabilities, childhood apraxia of speech, and articulation disorders. Delays in these basic but essential skills limit developmental, academic, and social achievement, and threaten future self-sufficiency. Unfortunately, children of low-income families are at even greater risk. On average, children in low-income families get less literacy and language support at home. A child experiencing poverty in the first five years of life has heard 32 million fewer words than a classmate from a middle class family. In a recently released study showed that minority children were less likely to receive speech-language therapy when compared to white children. Those children whose parental primary language was other than English are also less likely to receive services. The Children’s Speech and Reading Center’s ability to provide speech-language and reading support on a sliding-scale fee structure makes this important intervention available to all families, regardless of income level. Foundation and individual donor support allows CSRC to provide on-going free screening of all children and to provide our sliding scale fee structure. We want to make sure that all children that are in need, are identified, and have access to speech-language and/or reading therapy so they can reach their full potential! This is our mission and our purpose!
