About This Cause

The Crawford CAC works to prevent and respond to child abuse in Larimer and Jackson Counties--Colorado's 8th Judicial District. We help prevent abuse by training over 6200 elementary school students to recognize, resist, and report attempts to physically or sexually abuse them. We also train adults to recognize and respond to risks of abuse to better protect the children they care for. When child abuse does occur, The Crawford CAC provides a safe, welcoming environment for children to tell their stories. We perform professional interviews of the child victims to help Child Protective Services support the victim and their family and to assist law enforcement in convicting the perpetrators. We also provide advocacy services for the non-offending caregivers and family members of the victims. We connect families to resources in our community to support them through this very difficult time. We help them understand and apply for victim's compensation, if applicable, and discuss the investigation process and what they can expect. We can also provide emergency funds for qualified families who require immediate assistance with basic needs. Each year, we see 300+ cases of child abuse, nearly 90% of which were cases of sexual abuse. Through our services, perpetrators are convicted and children and their families begin the journey from victims to survivors.
