Need $12,500 is the direct program cost to provide temporary housing and case management for four families for 45 days. $1,300 is the cost for a month for a family to be housed in our one transitional unit. $3,200 is the average first and last month's rent plus a deposit for a two bedroom apartment in Colorado Springs. History Interfaith Hospitality Network of Colorado Springs was incorporated in 1996 as a nonsectarian nonprofit. This agency was founded as the result of several Colorado Springs faith-based congregations seeking a way to help community families with children who are in an unhoused situation. One of the pastors knew of the IHN model and invited the president of the national IHN to come to Colorado Springs and speak to congregations’ representatives. The congregations embraced the IHN model because they could join their resources to help unhoused families without having to make a 365 day time commitment to this outreach. By working together, participating congregations rotate host weeks, allowing each congregation to host the families for up to four weeks a year. Families stay with a host congregation for one week at a time. Each family has its own room with privacy, unlike traditional shelters. Volunteers from the hosting congregation provide and share the evening meal with the families, provide breakfast in the morning and the makings for a sack lunch. Many of the hosting congregations provide an evening activity to engage families in fun and meaningful interactions with their volunteers. IHN rented space for a Family Day Center, hired staff, and opened its doors to families in 1997. As the organization grew in experience, a series of programs aimed at assisting Network families have been initiated. Today, IHN is proud of its success record of graduating families into self-sufficiency because of the effectiveness of its major programs and the professionalism of its staff of one full time and four part time positions. Currently, more than 30 congregations partner with IHN.
