Mission Statement
THE TYANNA FOUNDATION is different. We’re known for our signature slogan Save the Girls—our playful battle cry to make breast cancer more comfortable for patients—and less prevalent on the planet.
About This Cause
Founded by five sisters, our organization gets its name from Tyanna Barre O’Brien who lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 48. Through the work of her daughters Anne, Bridget, Megan, Sara and Katie—and everyone who raises a glass (and awareness) in a mother’s honor, Tyanna’s legacy lives on. Since 1999, The Tyanna Foundation has hosted successful cocktails-for-a-cause style events—raising more than $1.5 million for the Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, along with other organizations in our sister cities: Philadelphia, PA; Athens, GA; Greenville, SC and South Jersey. In 2008, Mercy named The Tyanna O’Brien Center for Women’s Imaging after our mom as a way of thanking our generous sponsors and supporters. What an honor! We keep all of the profits from each city local—directly benefitting breast cancer patients and survivors where we live, love and work. In Charm City, 90% of funds raised go to the Hoffberger Center, while 10% stays with The Tyanna Foundation for other essential programming. We’re talking education, patient care, and much-needed support services for folks going through treatment. In a nutshell, we make people’s lives better—and, so can you. A 100% volunteer organization, we work tirelessly—but play hard—to Save the Girls. We live by the philosophy that good health and good humor go hand in hand. So, we’re always looking for fun-loving females, and males (maybe you’ve seen our Keep Motorboating Alive t-shirts, gentlemen?) to help educate folks that breast cancer is highly curable if caught early. UPSHOT: Whether you’re 18 or 80, we want you to Check Your Boobs, Hon! (Or, check the boobs of someone you love.) REAL TALK: don’t be fooled by our tomfoolery…we take our cause seriously, run this organization like a well-oiled machine, and count some of the city’s top movers and shakers as Tyanna devotees. No surprise, we treat our donors and volunteers like family. And, we want you to be a part of it. So, what are you waiting for? Join us, won’t you?!
