About This Cause
Peer Plus Education and Training Advocates is one-hundred percent volunteer-driven, supported and sustained. The organization has been serving communities in the Midwest since 2002. Peer Plus reaches underserved communities to increase awareness of health care issues and total wellness. Our primary objective is to be a tool that facilitates improvements in physical and mental well-being and improve the overall quality of life in the communities we serve. Peer Plus has a substantial background related to minority health issues that disproportionately impact lower-income communities. Those topics include, but are not limited to diabetes, obesity, nutritional challenges, hypertension, prostate, breast and other cancers, STDs/HIV, environmental stress factors and domestic violence. Over the years Peer Plus has been and continues to be, well received within the diverse communities we serve as a result of providing current and relevant information on medical and non-clinical issues impacting individuals and populations. Peer Plus has an active a volunteer staff, each with a wide range of skills and expertise, in addition to having diverse backgrounds and professions. They encompass Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, financial planners, Counselor/Testers with training and certification in HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C, bilingual health educators with international experience, all comprising more than thirty years of health care, education and financial experience. We currently provide peer-focused training, prevention activities and information dissemination for people and groups impacted by preventable diseases, chronic illness, and poverty. Peer Plus works with community centers, schools, churches, colleges, and private institutions within those communities to identify best and most appropriate practices to communicate with those populations. Outreach then takes the form of localized events such as health fairs, information tables, and support groups as well as direct outreach when appropriate. Peer Plus tag (Aware with Care), ensures that everyone is treated with respect regardless of their needs. s
