Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive support system and safe place for mothers/parents and families in need and to promote awareness and prevention of Perinatal Mental Health Disorders.
About This Cause
Postpartum Support Center leads a community effort to prevent suffering and mental health complications in expectant and new parents and their children in Marin County. Our main goals are to help perinatal families navigate the postpartum period, reduce parental stress, build effective support systems, and prevent postpartum depression. With the help of the PPSC, new mothers are no longer alone in their struggles. Our program is built on Prevention, Intervention, Emotional & Practical Support, Education, and Resource Access. We follow the Strengthening Families approach, which aims to build family strengths, enhance child development, and reduce child abuse and neglect. This approach is driven by five key Protective Factors: Parental Resilience, Social Connections, Parenting Knowledge, Concrete Support, and Children’s Social and Emotional Competence. PPSC integrates these factors with evidence-based programs to maximize community impact. Core Programs and Services: Mom to Mom Peer Counseling: Trained Peer Mentors offer personalized support to mothers through email, phone, text, chat, and in-person. Postpartum Peer Support Groups: Weekly drop-in meetings led by peers provide emotional support, education, and practical help, helping new mothers feel less isolated and more supported. Support Line (415-320-6707): Trained peers offer emotional support and connect callers to local treatment resources. Marin Diaper Bank: Provides essential items like diapers, wipes, baby food, clothing, and gear to families in need. This program reduces financial stress for low-income families while promoting sustainability through donated items. ROSE Program (Reach Out, Stay Strong, Essentials for Mothers of Newborns): An evidence-based intervention that reduces postpartum depression risk in low-income women by half. The program offers five 90-minute sessions during the second half of pregnancy. Educational Classes: Birth Preferences Class: Educates parents on birthing and postpartum care options. Labor Techniques Class: Teaches labor pain and anxiety management. Breastfeeding Class: Provides techniques, support, and solutions for breastfeeding challenges. Breastfeeding Support Group: A weekly space for continued education and peer support. These programs empower families and foster community well-being through comprehensive support and education. We are confident that together we will affect positive change so that no parent will continue to suffer alone.
