About This Cause

Fostering Hope is a volunteer-run, donation-driven, 501(c)(3) organization that serves foster families and children in Southeastern PA. Our goals are to reduce the barriers that stand in the way of people opening their hearts and homes to fostering and to make the transition into the foster care system easier for children. This organization was started by women who see a dire need – children who need safety and permanence and the shortage of foster and adoptive parents. We provide opportunities for the entire community to get involved to support foster families and children. Fostering Hope has three main initiatives: Dignity Duffles, Bags of Hope, and the Foster-Share Closet. -Dignity Duffles: Children receive a duffle bag, provided by Fostering Hope, to pack their belongings as they transition to their foster home placement. This new duffle bag provides a sense of dignity instead of a trash bag. We seek donations of a specific bag available on our Amazon wish list because of its capacity to be stored flat. Case workers can then keep multiple duffles in their trunk for emergency placements. -Bags of Hope: Upon entering their foster home, each child receives a drawstring bag from Fostering Hope that includes toiletries and small items to provide comfort and welcome them into their foster care placement. Fostering Hope’s initiatives help children to feel comfort as they transition into their foster care placement and help to support foster parents. -Foster-Share Closet: Soon after the Directors of Fostering Hope became foster parents, they realized how crucial the donations they received were to their success as foster parents as they frantically searched for the needed basics. The Foster-Share Closet replicates the support they received for all foster families in our area. Every foster family and child can “shop” in the Foster-Share Closet. They can receive clothing, toys, books, and large baby gear. The Foster-Share Closet helps to alleviate financial and logistical issues when a family welcomes a baby, child, or teenager into their home. There are many items like car seats, that due to safety concerns, we cannot accept used donations and must purchase new. Fostering Hope also provides educational classes and other services to resource parents. We work closely with the counties and try to support the most pressing needs.
