Community Action Volunteer Experience (C.A.V.E.), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is dedicated to empowering individuals and creating positive change within rural and underserved communities. Our core mission is achieved through proactive volunteer action, robust community engagement, and effective advocacy. C.A.V.E. focuses on making a lasting impact in Florence, SC and surrounding areas, by developing and implementing diverse programs. This includes initiatives like Spotlight On Youth (SOY), which specifically equips youth with essential 1-1 mentorship, group workshops, life skills and networking opportunities, enabling them to thrive and become confident and compassionate leaders.

Overview: Community Action Volunteer Experience (C.A.V.E.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Florence, South Carolina, committed to transforming lives and uplifting underserved communities through innovative programming in youth development, health, education, and community engagement. Our mission is to ignite hope and cultivate lasting change by equipping individuals—especially youth and families—with tools, mentorship, and access to essential services. Our Signature Initiatives: Spotlight on Youth (S.O.Y.) Spotlighting our future leaders... The Spotlight on Youth initiative is a bold, targeted intervention for at-risk youth aged 10–21 who face systemic barriers such as academic failure, poverty, and potential legal involvement. S.O.Y. addresses the root causes of youth disengagement by offering a structured program grounded in mentorship, personal growth, and leadership development. Key Features: Personalized Mentorship: One-on-one coaching from trained life coaches. Leadership & Life Skills Workshops: Bi-weekly sessions focused on communication, resilience, and personal accountability. Mental Health & Grief Counseling: On-staff professionals provide ongoing emotional support. Community Engagement Projects: Monthly service opportunities to build responsibility and pride. Quarterly Showcases: Public events to highlight participants’ growth and achievements. In its first year, S.O.Y. will serve 150 youth, divided into three age groups (10–13, 14–17, 18–21). By addressing mental health, academic barriers, and life skills, this initiative aims to reduce dropout rates, improve self-confidence, and prepare youth to become future leaders. The Health Initiative Wellness Where It’s Needed Most. C.A.V.E.’s Health Initiative takes a holistic, community-centered approach to wellness, bringing preventative care, health education, and support services directly into underserved neighborhoods and schools. With a focus on accessibility and empowerment, this program ensures families can take charge of their health regardless of socioeconomic status. Key Components: Nutrition Education & Awareness: Label-reading workshops Food-as-medicine classes Healthy food substitutions Practical Wellness Skill-Building: Live cooking demonstrations Meal prep and intuitive eating classes Functional fitness sessions (yoga, group workouts) Community Engagement & Support: Wellness challenges and potlucks Group coaching and support circles Partnerships with schools, chefs, and farmers’ markets The initiative hosts 90 wellness events annually, serving 1,800+ participants and focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes that can prevent chronic disease and promote lifelong vitality. Confidence Impact: We believe every individual was created with the ability to be creator and problem solvers, endowed with purpose, influence, and the capacity for to produce change. Our programs empower people to occupy their area of influence with confidence and compassion. Why C.A.V.E. Matters Community Need: Florence County faces disproportionately high youth poverty (30%) and school dropout rates (12%), with limited access to preventative healthcare. C.A.V.E. exists to meet these gaps with compassion, innovation, and action. Measurable Outcomes: S.O.Y. will reduce youth dropout risk and increase graduation rates by 15% in Year 1. The Health Initiative will provide over 1,800 individual wellness interventions in its first year. Annual Budget & Sustainability: C.A.V.E.'s total projected annual budget is $1.72 million, with major funding directed toward: S.O.Y. Program: $775,924 Health Initiative: $511,000 We sustain our mission through grants, corporate partnerships, community fundraisers, and individual donors.
