About This Cause

The Devastating Crisis of Gender-Based Violence in the Sahel The worldwide prevalence of gender-based violence (GBV) against women has become a devastating social crisis, particularly in the Sahel region of West Africa. This crisis has been exacerbated by recent political instability, armed conflict, and terrorism since 2012. In these communities, women face unimaginable burdens. They work 18-24 hours per day, often the first to wake and the last to sleep. Many are victims of rape, early forced marriage, female genital mutilation, abandonment, and various other forms of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. This crisis requires an immediate and appropriate response. Justice and Dignity for Women of the Sahel (JDWS): A Beacon of Hope JDWS is a local and international women's rights association present in six Sahel countries - Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Chad. We work to break the silence and lift the taboos around gender-based violence, assisting women and girls and loudly denouncing inequality and social injustice. Our holistic approach focuses on: - Promoting the rights of women and girls - Protecting against gender-based violence - Supporting sexual and reproductive health - Empowering women's leadership and resilience We operate with a "needs-based" approach, working directly with local partners and communities to provide support solely based on vulnerability, without discrimination. Currently, our dedicated team is composed entirely of volunteers. Your Support Can Transform Lives JDWS welcomes any support you can provide - financial, material, equipment, or technical assistance. Your contribution can help us continue our vital work of breaking the cycle of violence, empowering women, and building a more just, equitable, and peaceful society in the Sahel region. Together, we can be a beacon of hope and create a future where women and girls are free to live with dignity, respect, and opportunity. Join us in this critical mission.
