Mission Statement
Boxers with Parkinson's (BwP) is a Washington 501c3 nonprofit association exclusively for health and fitness providers of boxing-themed exercise programs for people with Parkinson's. BwP provides assessment tools for boxers with Parkinson's serving the individual boxers while aggregating data for research projects for the Parkinson's community.
About This Cause
Boxers with Parkinson's (BwP) is a member-driven association to identify and work on issues the members care about. The association provides a collective voice with researchers and other interested parties. BwP has created the Boxers with Parkinson's Project. This project is a national Parkinson's patient registry to collect historical and ongoing data on thousands of boxers participating in boxing themed exercise therapy programs. Members will have access to reports on the boxers in their programs, and select reports on national trends and statistics. BwP Has also created an app designed as a boxer management system for intake assessments and reassessments. It is a boxer testing app for coaches, a boxer/coach consulting tool, and a research data collection tool. It securely stores data in the cloud and emails assessment reports to the boxer to share with their family, even their neurologist. The Boxers with Parkinson's Project Research Portal (coming soon) will allow collected data to be available to select outside groups with a committed interest in boxing as exercise therapy for Parkinson's. BwP also sponsors the Sweaty Bucks Community Giving Program. Boxers at individual gyms can contribute to the Sweaty Bucks jar at workouts. So far the program has resulted in donations of over $38,000 to various community programs selected by the boxers themselves. BwP Boxers really make a difference in their community.
