About This Cause
Our Story Imagine being faced with a life-changing diagnosis and being whisked away to undergo treatment in an unfamiliar city for an average of 6 months to a year at a time. Imagine leaving your comfortable home, your family, friends, job–literally putting your life, as you know it, on hold. That’s the reality that many families face when traveling into our community for treatment. Little Rock is a huge medical hub, and we see from the frontline that there is a real need for what we do. For over 25 years our mission has been the same--to provide a Home Away From Home for patients and their families who are seeking medical treatment in Little Rock. A true home where families can focus on relaxing and recovering. In 1995 God led two ladies of the Little Rock Church to begin an outreach to bone-marrow transplant patients. It became evident that there was a pressing need for affordable short and long-term housing while meeting the patient’s special needs and requirements. With the assistance and encouragement of a patient and his wife, three apartments were opened for this purpose in the fall of 1995.The Home Away From Home mission did not end at providing beautifully decorated furnished apartments, but included hospitality such as meals, cards, encouragement, love and prayer. Their commitment of serving the sick has now grown into 17 apartments, a staff of 5, and a multitude of volunteers with a passion for providing a place of comfort and community for each family served. As we celebrate our 25th year of serving in 2020, and move into a new season as Goodness Village, we look forward to continuing the vision of these two special ladies who followed their heart to fulfill a need in our community. New Name- Same Mission The excitement of transitioning HomeAwayFrom Home into Goodness Village as an independent nonprofit, will allow us to increase our impact throughout the region and expand and enhance our partnerships with area churches, hospitals, businesses and individuals who wish to join our mission. Our aim is to join arms and work together to grow and improve our program with a primary focus of providing christ-centered hospitality as well as live out Jesus’ words in Matthew 25 “I was a stranger and you invited me in... I was sick and you cared for me."
