Mission Statement
The Upper Macungie Township Community Fund (UMTCF) is a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation established to support the Parks and Recreation facilities and programs of Upper Macungie Township, Pennsylvania. A primary activity of UMTCF will be to raise money to fund the construction and operation of the Upper Macungie Township community center (the "Center") to be located in the Township's Grange Road Park located at 360 Grange Road, Allentown, Pennsylvania. UMTCF will also be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Center once completed. Upper Macungie Township is a Second-Class township located in the Lehigh Valley part of Pennsylvania, near the City of Allentown. A Township is a form of municipal government codified under the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
About This Cause
Although the Center has not yet been built; construction is anticipated to commence in shortly. The current plans for the Center provide for an approximate 180,000 square foot facility that contains indoor sports fields (1 full size soccer field, 2 basketball courts, 2 volleyball courts, 2 tennis/pickleball courts), an indoor walking path, locker rooms, a concession stand, meeting rooms and flexible use space. The Center will provide a safe, family-friendly, modern complex for year-round recreation and wellness for all ages and abilities. Residents of Upper Macungie Township and non-residents will be eligible for membership in the Center. Membership fees will be on a sliding scale depending upon applicant resources. The Center will enrich the quality of life of the community by providing innovative and diverse recreation and wellness programming, fostering community involvement and engagement and promoting physical and mental health and well-being. This will be accomplished through hosting small group activities up to regional sports tournaments, including local nonprofit sports leagues and other sports activities, as well as Center sponsored and led exercise and recreation programs and other activities for individuals and groups of all ages and ability levels and which shall include opportunities for non-residents as well as residents. The intention is to have low or moderate cost programs that can benefit all segments of the population from youth to seniors. A representative list of programs that are expected to be offered at the Center is provided below (these programs are subject to change): Sample programs to be held: • Sports tournaments, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, pickle ball • Sports camps • Sports local games and practices • Safe Sitter Classes • Hunter/Trapper Education classes • Walking programs - aka walk with a doctor • Yoga • Dance class - seniors, residents, members • Concerts/Festivals • Police National Night Out UMTCF will be governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that will oversee the general operation and financing of the Center with assistance from a compensated full-time facility manager, community volunteers and possibly one or more employees. The Board, along with staff and volunteers, will also engage in fund-raising with residents and businesses within Upper Macungie Township, and the Lehigh Valley, to fund the construction, operation and maintenance of the Center. This fundraising will be accomplished through one on one meetings, media campaigns (both written and social}, direct mail solicitations and public events such as auctions, dinners, etc. UMTCF will also generate revenue through member and user fees and rental fees of the Center's facilities. While paid staff may assist UMTCF's Board and other volunteers in UMTCF's fundraising activities, UMTCF does not at this time anticipate hiring any outside professional fundraising consultant(s). The Center will be constructed using a combination of funds from Upper Macungie Township and revenue generated by UMTCF through its fund-raising. While UMTCF will be responsible for the management of the Center, the Center building and the real estate on which the Center will be located will be owned by Upper Macungie Township. The governance relationship between UMTCF and Upper Macungie Township is more fully described in UMTCF's By-laws. The terms under which UMTCF will manage the Center will likely be set out in a long-term lease, management agreement or other terms of use agreement between UMTCF and Upper Macungie Township. In its early stages, 100% of the activity of UMTCF will be raising funds for the Center. Once the Center is completed and the Center is fully operational, it is estimated that 50 % of UMTCF's total activity will consist of fundraising for the continuing support of the Center's operations and 50 % of UMTCF's total activity will consist of managing the operation of the Center including providing, directly or indirectly, the sample programs referred to above, all of which will contribute to the quality of life and the physical and mental health and wellbeing of the community served by the Center. While most of the Center's activities will take place at the Center, some programs will be designed to allow for a combination of inside and outside events using the surrounding park.
