Our mission is to develop and implement an ongoing active sustainable research funnel for SMC1A related epilepsy and related neurodevelopmental disorders, with the laser focus on finding effective treatments and a cure.

About This Cause

SMC1A Foundation is a Non-Profit Organization with the vision to bring awareness, accelerate research, and find a cure for SMC1A related epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders. Our mission is to develop and implement an ongoing active sustainable research funnel for SMC1A related epilepsy and related neurodevelopmental disorders, with the laser focus on finding effective treatments and a cure. There are roughly a bit over 150 identified cases worldwide. Due to the advancement in genetic testing, we hope more cases will be identified in the near future. The goal is to start research into SMC1A on model organisms and animal models to get a more comprehensive understanding of the gene function and expression. And from there, develop appropriate research objectives that will expand the research to curative areas such as Gene Therapies, X-activation, Up-regulation of Protein, and others if found appropriate.
