Mission Statement
To promote health, healing and wholeness by providing Healing Touch to cancer patients and their caregivers; by training and supporting our Healing Touch providers; and by expanding Healing Touch into new healthcare settings.
About This Cause
HEALING PARTNERS OF THE CENTRAL COAST THE THREE PILLARS OF OUR MISSION Healing Touch for Integrative Cancer Care Healing Partners of the Central Coast (HPCC) offers a different kind of cancer support by providing Healing touch sessions to cancer patients while they are undergoing treatment. Individual sessions offer Participants a respite from the diagnosis and treatments that can leave them fractured and confused. "The early days of my cancer diagnosis felt like a crisis of body, mind and spirit. The confusion and fear were paramount, and I often didn't know how to feel." — Diane Dobronte, Program Participant Healing Touch is an integrative energy therapy that complements traditional cancer care. It helps offset the side effects of necessary treatments like radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. Cancer patients are paired with a dedicated volunteer Provider who has been trained in Healing Touch. The sessions are one-hour long and repeat weekly for a minimum of eight weeks. These nurturing sessions make a positive difference in Participants' healing by helping reduce fatigue, anxiety, appetite loss, pain and lymphedema. HPCC is committed to providing sessions at no cost, knowing how much Participants well-being is supported by the program. Healing Touch helps repair fractured lives and move Participants forward on their path to wholeness. "My beliefs morphed, and I broke open to the unknown with a new sense of self. My fear lessened. My oncologist noticed that I had a better attitude and healed faster than most of her other patients. I knew if I survived I wanted to be a part of passing these healing possibilities on to other cancer patients." — Diane Dobronte, Program Participant who is now a volunteer session Provider A cancer diagnosis not only impacts cancer patients; they whole family is impacted. This is why sessions are also provided for the Caregivers of those diagnosed with cancer. An overwhelming number of Participants report receiving significant benefits from the sessions. "As a recipient of healing Touch, being both a patient and then a caregiver, I could not believe what a gift I received. How I felt before and after the session is hard to describe. I was skeptical that the pain and stress could be corrected by the rebalancing of the body's energy leaving me with an overall feeling of almost being normal. I am now a believer in Healing Touch." — Lee Wolfer, Program Participant and Caregiver Training and Supporting HPCC Providers Healing Partners of the Central Coast is able to offer Healing Touch sessions because of the heart-centered Providers who are deeply dedicated to the work. It is vital to offer ongoing support and training. All Providers must complete at least the first two levels of Healing Touch classes. Most Providers have completed 5 levels and have become Certified Healing Touch Practitioners. Healing Touch is based on the belief, supported by science, that vital energy flows through and sustains the human body. Disruption in the flow can impact well-being. The goal of Healing Touch is to restore balance in support of health and wholeness. Providers use techniques (hands on the body or just above the body) to shift energy disruptions, remove blocks and thus restore balance. We believe wholeheartedly in the efficacy of Healing Touch when combined with traditional cancer care. In addition to Healing Touch training, Providers also receive in-depth training covering the medical, emotional, energetic, professional and ethical aspects of working with cancer patients. The things we don't have to train for are compassion and empathy; giving hearts are what lead the volunteers to this work, and they bring all three qualities to the program in spades. Providers are HPCC's biggest asset, so monthly meetings, resources and online community connection are provided to foster self-care and personal development. Meetings may include the latest research in energy work by leading scientists or a nurturing healing circle. We do like to mix it up and include fun activities for our Providers as well! "I can honestly say that the diagnosis of Cancer was a huge blessing in my life. Healing Partners introduced me into the world of energy healing, both as a receiver and then as a Provider. That began the inward journey of self-realization and transformation for me. I am forever grateful for the Healing Touch community and the light that was ignited within me!" — Natalie Killick, Program Participant and Provider. Expanding Healing Touch into New Healthcare Settings Increasing awareness and access to Healing Touch is also one of our top priorities. By introducing and training medical professionals in Healing Touch we continue to march forward with our mission by encouraging integrative approaches within our local healthcare systems. We are collaborating with local hospitals to facilitate Healing Touch training for healthcare workers. Currently there are over 40 nurses and healthcare professionals who have been trained in at least one, and often two, levels of Healing Touch. The American Holistic Nurses Association approves Healing Touch as a professional development activity and offers continuing education units for each training completed by Healthcare professionals. Healing Partners of the Central Coast believes partnerships with local hospitals and healthcare institutions supports them in becoming leaders in integrative care which can enhance patient experiences. We see them joining many of America's top hospitals such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Stanford Healthcare, the Mayo Clinic, the Duke University Medical Center and the Yale New Haven Hospital who have embraced integrative therapies like Healing Touch... because they work! We are dedicated to aligning with the trends to create opportunities for whole person care in our community. Local doctors are increasingly recognizing the value of Healing Touch. In 2023 we worked with our local hospital to develop an in-hospital program to provide Healing Touch to cancer patients during hospital stays. The program has been embraced and is now part of the hospitals patient care services under the Healing Arts umbrella. "The Healing Partners program has been a silver lining for our cancer patients. This program has given them an outlet to help deal with the stress and anxiety of a cancer diagnosis. This weekly hour to focus on their own energy and healing has been so powerful. I have definitely noticed those in the program have less side effects to chemotherapy and more energy!" — Dr. Nancy Rubin, Oncologist, Pacific Cancer Care. Sustainability When the founders of Healing Partners of the Central Coast established this nonprofit organization, a 501.(c)(3), the dream was longevity and expansion of Healing Touch Services throughout the Central Coast. In 2023 we established strategic plans to guide us to reach our dream. We are passionate about what we do. Every donation, whatever the size, helps us further our mission. With deepest gratitude we thank you for your consideration and support of our work.
