About This Cause
Always Andy's Mom is a charitable organization that seeks to provide hope and healing for parents who have experienced the loss of a child and others wanting to understand grief. The organization produces a weekly podcast called, 'Losing a Child: Always Andy's Mom,' where the host, Dr. Marcy Larson, interviews bereaved parents and experts in the field of grief. Grieving parents often feel isolated and alone in their experiences. The podcast helps to normalize the overwhelming feelings of grieving parents. Storytelling is such an amazing way to bring healing to others. Always Andy's mom hopes to expand their mission as they grow. As a physician, Dr. Larson, sees how those in health care have not really been taught to work with grieving families. Whether it is a nurse sitting at the bedside with a family whose beloved child is dying or a physician who continues to treat family members for years after that death occurs, medical professionals need to learn how to truly be present with a grieving family and not simply call a social worker or chaplain. Sitting with someone in that moment and not running away is often just what a family needs.
