Mission Statement

Soaring Heights provides safe, secure, and structured housing for individuals transitioning to a substance free, self-supporting life.

About This Cause

I would like to take a moment of your time and introduce a program that you may find of interest. My name is Eric Rasor and I am the President of Soaring Heights Recovery Homes. These homes have been described as “Houses of Hope.” Our transitional houses provide a structured living environment for those who have been struggling with drug addiction and want to change their lives. Currently we have two homes: Oriole House, for 8 women and their children Falcon House for 5 men with children. Robin's Nest for 7 women and their children These homes are located in welcoming neighborhoods that are supportive of our mission. Soaring Heights Recovery Homes have board members and volunteers who have genuine compassion who provide support to the families we serve. They understand the seriousness of drug addiction and the many facets that occur for those who want to begin a new life. People we help are often homeless, unemployed, and new in recovery and are working towards providing for themselves and their children in a safe and stable home. The families we serve have recognized the need to become productive individuals in the community and strive to achieve those goals while residing in our homes. They make significant changes along the way. They are provided with life skills; they seek employment and eventually obtain their own housing in the future. Soaring Heights knows this is a huge task when you are starting from the bottom and maneuver your way through the unfortunate situations that addiction has presented to them. We have seen some amazing successes over the last 2 years. Successes that change lives! We have seen many children return home to their parents. We have families who were able to stay together, without the need to utilize foster care because they had been approved to live at Soaring Heights with their children. There is nothing more rewarding to see families begin to heal as they rebuild their lives. Why do we do this? We believe in giving people second chances. Deep down inside the individual struggling, is a person who wants to be a good parent, employee, family member, and neighbor. This takes time and is the reason we are providing services that allow families to gain stability and become self-sufficient. Our homes allow a person to live at the transitional house up to 18 months if needed. This time frame takes stress off someone who is already facing difficult days ahead. What is going on during this time we work together with them? Our families have a lot of personal work they are addressing. They are finding jobs, re-establishing their rental histories, clearing up legal matters and practicing the skills needed to become self-sufficient. Our families have access to volunteer staff that has experience in the substance abuse field. We work closely with the professionals and agencies that are involved with our families and have established positive relationships with Department of Human Services, Community Corrections, Court Programs and Treatment facilities throughout the county. Homelessness is significant in our community. And our program is capable of housing individuals directly from homelessness. The need for affordable housing for recovering families is tremendous and community agencies have identified our homes as one of their top choices. In response to this our strategic plan includes opening more houses in the future. We believe sustainability is of utmost importance and feel this can happen in the near future. Miracles happen at Soaring Heights Recovery Homes. I would feel honored to be able to share more about those with your committee. Sincerely, Eric Rasor, Executive Director
