The mission of the Black Cultural Zone CDC is to center Black arts, culture, and economics as we collectively design, resource, transform, and build collective power for our communities. Our Vision is a robust and vibrant renaissance in legacy Black communities; vibrant, thriving Black Arts, Cultural, and Commercial areas in a thriving economy; an ecosystem anchored by Black Arts, Culture, Commerce; and collective power that assures our inalienable human rights to love, health, wellness, belonging, power, safety, and self-determination.

About This Cause

The Black Cultural Zone Community Development Corporation (BCZ CDC) is a non-profit organization based in Oakland, California that is dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of Black culture in East Oakland. The organization was founded in 2019 in response to the displacement of Black residents from East Oakland due to gentrification and rising housing costs. The BCZ CDC is committed to working with the East Oakland community to create a more equitable and just city. The organization believes that Black culture is an essential part of the fabric of Oakland, and that it is important to preserve and celebrate this culture for future generations. In addition to its work in East Oakland, the BCZ CDC also serves as a resource for other organizations and communities that are working to preserve and promote Black culture. The organization provides training and technical assistance to other groups, and it also shares best practices and resources. The BCZ CDC is a vital organization that is working to make a positive impact on the lives of Black residents in Oakland. The organization's work is essential to the preservation and revitalization of Black culture in the city.
