Mission Statement
YIMBY Georgia is about creating and nurturing a movement for community & compassion for our home•less neighbors. You know that thing, "NIMBY" - "not in my backyard"? Well, that's not us: YIMBY - Yes In My BackYard. We seek to inspire and show others how they can make a difference their own communities and neighborhoods - their own backyards.
About This Cause
It is our ultimate goal to create a dynamic template for a strong and compassionate coalition of communities that treats the least among us as our neighbors. A coalition that will ultimately grow beyond Atlanta, beyond Georgia. Fundraising Goals fro YIMBY Georgia: From Pipedreams to "In the Pipeline" 1: THRIFT STORES: Our chain of community thrift store will raise funds for YIMBY Georgia, and assist anyone experiencing home•lessens or near- home•lessens by having social services onsite: When these people come in, we will provide them with basic supplies, and they will be able to talk with an experienced social worker that can help with resources for housing, public transportation, legal documents, etc. 2: FOOD TRUCKS: We will bring food trucks into parts of Atlanta that are considered to be "food deserts". Working in partnership with local chefs and food banks, we will bring healthy meals, pantry staples and fresh fruits and vegetables to people who do not have access to grocery stores or farmer markets. This will be part of a larger goal to help not only our home•less neighbors, but anyone experiencing hunger and malnutrition. 3: SHOWER & LAUNDRY TRUCKS: How does someone experiencing home•lessens seek employment when their clothes are soiled? It's an obstacle that is easily removed by having shower & laundry trucks on the streets. It's amazing what a 5-minute shower can do for the soul and self confidence. 4:TINY HOME COMMUNITIES: What do cities like Detroit, Austin, Syracuse, Nashville, Dallas and Portland have in common? All have tiny home communities for the underprivileged. Ultimately, affordable and accessible housing is a key solution for preventing and reducing home•lessens. We need to add Atlanta to this list.
